Abstract: |
Given the fact that stay cables hardly restrain the transverse bending of a cable-stayed bridge tower, some aerodynamic means of preventing wind-induced vibration is often necessary when steel towers are used. Through applying such measures, the visual impression of the tower shape can be much improved, and even innovative shapes can be attained, if these aerodynamic means are appropriately designed. Several experiences in Japan will be illustrated in this article. |
