Abstract:

Racking strength and stiffness of sandwich wall panels.

For small buildings consisting of supporting sandwich panels without load-bearing substructure it needs to be clarified first whether the panels are suitable to transfer horizontal loads in the plane of the wall to the foundation. For this purpose wall racking tests on sandwich elements were performed. Both single panels and two or three panel configurations were tested. Wall performance was mainly dependent on the number and the arrangement of screw fixings at the base rail of the panel. Horizontal loads, in a magnitude as they occur on small and medium-sized buildings, can be borne easily.
