Abstract:

The interaction between slabs and masonry walls — part 3: Application of the calculation model.

The paper at hand continues the series "The interaction between slabs and masonry walls" published in the journal "Mauerwerk". Within the first part, a general introduction into the theory and engineering treatment of the interaction between slabs and masonry walls is given. Experimental investigations as well as the comparison of the results with numerical simulations are described in the second part. As a result, a modified theoretical calculation model is available, that allows for a realistic determination of the nodal moments and with that of the load eccentricities. To enable a simple and fast application of the findings, a comprehensive numerical parameter study was carried out, which delivered load eccentricity tables for numerous standard parameter combinations.
Now in the third part, the practical application of those tables is demonstrated by means of two examples. At this, the requested values can directly be taken from the tables and used for the subsequent design of the masonry walls. The complex determination of bending moments, for example according to DIN 1053-1 by means of a frame system, can be omitted. Hence, the result tables from are a suitable tool fort the fast, simple, realistic and safe identification of the actual load eccentricities.
