Abstract:

Bonding between steel and Self Compacting Concrete in composite columns.

The aim of the research work is exploration of bonding in steel-concrete composite columns when Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is used. The appropriate laboratory tests were carried out on specimen composed of two I-profiles and covered by steel plates which created a space to be filled with Self Compacting Concrete. The testing conditions corresponded to an earlier research work of the authors on vibrated concrete. Based on the test results the authors express the opinion that bond behavior in composite columns depends on concrete compressive strength. However, use of Self Compacting Concrete seems to produces lower bond strength than that available with vibrated concrete.
