Abstract: |
Due to recent growth, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) needed to increase the capacity of US Highway 183 through the city of Austin. This project represents a break from typical large-scale bridge architecture. Engineers and technicians had the freedom to optimize aesthetics aspects of the structural elements. The physical properties of structural concrete (moldability, compressive strength, etc.) were exploited to create pleasing shapes economically. |
