Abstract:

Flexural load-bearing capacity of composite beams with teeth joints.

The dovetail connection is a historical joining technology to avoid thrust by joining scantlings to beams. Nowadays those beams are only appearing during renovations of historical buildings. By preservations of monuments and historical buildings these old joinings should be repaired or restored.
There are no codes of practice to these special composite beams in modern literature of timber work. Rules for static calculations are recorded in timber work literature in the period between 1830 to 1970.
