Abstract: |
Timber is by far the most important export product of Sweden, but is seldom used in bridge construction. In order to stimulate increased use of wood in bridge construction. Trätek, the Swedish Institute for Wood Technology Research, initiated a programme to promote the use of wood as a bridge construction material. In 1992, two timber footbridges were proposed as alternatives to concrete and steel girder bridges. The timber structures proved to be very competitive proposals and were ultimately built. |
