Abstract:

Load-bearing capacity and load-bearing behaviour of lap joints loaded in compression

Angle and cross joints using laps are important members of a lot of roof structures erected by carpenters in central europe. The structural usage of these joints demands the knowledge of their load-bearing capacity and behaviour according to EN 1995-1-1. Therefore codes and literature lack information.
This contribution deals with the load-bearing capacity and behaviour of lap joints (as angle joints, here: dovetail lap joints and halved joints) loaded in compression. 92 tests were performed and analysed. Both proposals for the design and for the determination of the stiffnesses of these joints are given here.
