Abstract: |
The few examples presented in this article demonstrate that it is possible to design very elegant and diversified towers for short-span cable-stayed bridges. Due to the reduced scale of loads, it is often possible to have more freedom for the architectural design than for long-span cable-stayed bridges. The cost of short-span cable-stayed bridges is generally higher than conventional short-span bridges. Nevertheless, in some countries, such as Bolivia, cable-stayed bridges can be more economical than conventional ones due to the reduced quantities of concrete for the deck. |
