Abstract: |
In order to resolve the problem that the old City Hall Complex of Tokyo in the Marunouchi district became old, scattered and cramped, it was decided in 1985 to construct a new City Hall and Assembly Hall for Tokyo in the new commercial-business district of Shinjuku. The new City Hall Complex of Tokyo is a big project with a total floor area of 381,400 m². In particular, the City Hall Tower No 1 has become the highest building in Japan. Moreover, these buildings must fulfill their functions perfectly for public safety during and after disasters. This article reports on architectural and structural aspects of the project. |
