Abstract: |
The 5.6 km long main adit of the pumped storage power plant at Nant de Drance in Switzerland is currently under construction. The tunnel is being excavated by a hard rock TBM with a diameter of 9.45 m. Unexpectedly high water inflows with water pressures up to 42 bar as well as unfavourable ground conditions have caused various delays and interruptions of the excavation. To overcome the unfavourable ground conditions, grouting works are facilitated ahead of the TBM as well as from the backup. The paper describes the design and implementation of the grouting works on site as well as the effect of the encountered rock mass conditions on the TBM advance with a special focus on the influence of unstable face conditions, blocky ground and high water pressure. |
