Abstract:

In the development of new Wave Energy Converters it is advisable, prior to their design, to carry out a study of the waves in order to check whether the device is going to be able to generate electricity. Furthermore, knowing the swell in the area will help the design of the collector to adapt it to the type of swell. The aim of this study is to find out the main wave parameters of the Spanish Atlantic coast, specifically in Galicia, the Basque Country, Andalusia and the Canary Islands. After comparing the 4 locations, a detailed study of the ideal location will have to be carried out in which, in addition to the frequency of occurrence of the swell and the direction of the swell, the slope of the swell and the power per metre of wave front will have to be detailed, as well as the maximum power that could be extracted from the device to be designed. Keywords: Spanish Atlantic coast, SIMAR point, Wave Energy Converter, Wave frequency, Wave slope, Wave power and Swell rose.
