Abstract: |
This paper mainly emphasizes two objectives. The first objective is a comparative study on the inelastic seismic response of multi-storeyed buildings to fault normal and fault parallel components of near-field ground motions. The study has shown that it is necessary to consider the effect of near-fault ground motions separately and make provisions for design in the codes of practice accordingly. The second objective of this study is to reduce the response of the bottom storey in multi-storeyed buildings to the fault normal component of near-field ground motions through an expendable top storey concept. |
