Abstract:

The establishment of inspection techniques for seismic damage to civil infrastructure systems, such as expressway viaducts, is needed to diagnose the condition of the structures suffered by earthquakes. Therefore, the research and development of non-destructive techniques is necessary. This study introduces three inspection techniques, conventional direct visual inspection method, advanced indirect bored-hole camera inspection method, and smart non-destructive pile integrity test method, that are employed for investigating the seismic damage to the viaduct piles suffered by the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. This study also summarizes the evaluation method and inspection result of the damaged piles.
