Abstract: |
One of the main problems of historical centers is related to the maintenance and safeguarding of old buildings, often seriously damaged by the ravages of time. In the case of Naples, most of the current damage conditions are mainly due to earthquakes which have occurred in this century. In most cases, the damage is exacerbated by the structural design of the old masonry buildings, the bearing structures of which are inadequate to withstand the seismic loads. Further, the structural response can be compromised by the network of deep caves beneath Naples which can cause foundation settling. |
