Abstract: |
The majority of structural applications of glass fall outside the scope of established standards and codes of practice. However, numerous standards exist for glass and its common applications and with care selected aspects of these standards are transferable to structural applications. In developing designs and the associated test regimes, it is helpful to understand the basis of existing standards and use those aspects which are applicable, bringing the benefits of established criteria and reducing the number of novel aspects to a manageable level. Design guidance, references to standards and built details for a wide range of structural glass applications are contained in the British guide Structural use of glass in buildings. |
