Abstract:

In this paper the influence of the friction losses upon the multiple step post-tensioning procedure is analysed. The result of the study is an analytical solution which shows that, in the case of significant friction resistance, during the post-tensioning steps only a share of the total length of the tendons is really stretched. This fact reflects significantly on the distribution of the axial force and of the elongation along the cables. The comparison of theoretical values predicted for friction coefficients with experimental data provided by the post-tensioning of the cables of a large clinker silos shows a satisfying agreement.
