Abstract: |
Aesthetics is an important factor in the overall quality of a bridge. A bridge of high quality is most likely to be created by a well-balanced design that respects engineering knowledge while allowing for artistic creativity. Consistency with the conceptual design is also often a mark of a successful bridge design: the parts and the whole must agree. It can be said that single towers can be effectively used with curved-decked cable-stayed bridges. Two or more S-curved decks can form a three-dimensionally stable structure and generate an aesthetically pleasing warped cable plane. This type of bridge system can give delight to bridge users and neighbours, whilst harmonising with the surrounding landscape. |
