Abstract:

Covering the tanks at wastewater treatment plants reduces odours and improves the plant's visual appearance. However, many circular tanks contain stirring equipment, which complicates the placement of supports within the tank itself. At Thisted in northern Jutland, two circular concrete tanks have been covered with self-bearing fibreglass shell structures with a free span of 27.5 m and a shell thickness of only 60-100 mm. A half ellipse with main axes ratios of 1:4.5 has been chosen as the radial shell section.
