Abstract:

The seismic design of Cold‐Formed Steel (CFS) building structures is not covered by the current edition of Eurocode 8. In order to update Eurocode 8 to reflect the findings of extensive research undertaken over the last ten years, the University of Naples “Federico II” is taking part in the evaluation of current seismic design criteria and the creation of new guidelines for the design of CFS systems. This paper especially examines various Lateral Force Resisting System (LFRS) types that may be found in the second version of Eurocode 8. It also provides background information on the research initiatives and reference design standards in use in various parts of the world that served as the basis for the development of design criteria included in the new version of Eurocode 8.
