This artice presents an analytical procedure which describes the rotational behaviour of sandwich beams as built from laminated glass in structural glass applications, under Saint-Venant torsion. From this procedure an approach is derived, which allows the direct determination of a Saint-Venant tosional rigidity for sandwich cross-sections. This torsional rigidity depends only on the cross-sectional geometry and the shear moduluses of the different layers. With the cross -sectional parameter it is possible to describe the mechanical load-bearing behaviour of sandwich beams easily with the well-known engineering mechanics procedures for monolithical cross-sections. |
