Safety Barriers for Highway Bridges

The European Committee for Standardisation has played an essential role in standardising different barrier performance proposals, and has prepared a draft standard to serve as a guide in the definition of safety barriers in relation to the performance requirements envisaged. In this paper, the fundamental parameters defining the behaviour of safety barriers are analysed, as are the methods by which such parameters can be determined in the commonly used barrier types.
