In the former quarry near Spitz many rockslides have occurred during operation as well as after closure. They endangered a railway, the Wachau-bicycle route, an important road and the left Danube river bank. Therefore, a protection embankment and a rock fall fence were constructed as well as a monitoring system installed automatically closing all traffic routes, when rock face displacements are exceeding a threshold.
