Abstract:

Four gasometers were built in Vienna between 1896 and 1899 in response to increased demand for gas supply. The external structures were only the frames of the technical storage buildings, i.e. aesthetic shells without supporting functions. In 1986, the gasometers were put out of operation following a change in means of gas supply. Since then, the buildings have only been used for various dancing events or exhibitions. This part of the city is now being upgraded, with the revitalisation of the gasometers forming the focus of the work.
