Abstract:

Band-width reduction for sets of independent structures

Computer aided design of compelte structures implies the automatic generation of the data used in structural analysis. Structure nodes are numbered so that results can be readily interpreted. The node numbering used produces a large band-width, which makes the used of band-width reduction algorithms necessary. Sometimes, these systems lead to the analysis of sets of independent structures, in which case many of the susual band-width reduction algorithms fail. An algorithm with very short execution time, which can be applied to sets of independen structures, and which produces optimum or nearly optimum band-width for every structure in the set, is described in this paper. Besides, this algorithm produces satisfactory renimberings even if it were interrupted before its total accomplishment, due for instance to an execution time limitation. KEY WORDS: Matrux structural analysis; BAndwidth reduction; node-renumbering; Computer aided design.
