Abstract: |
The new Qantas Sydney domestic terminal project represented the completion, in August 1999 of more than 5 years work in redeveloping the terminal built in 1974. The design and construction of the terminal involved many challenges including minimizing disruption of Qantas' daily operations and maximizing spans within the buildings to achieve large column free spaces by using post-tensioned concrete throughout. The total area of new construction totals some 80 000 m² of new space including administration, engineering facilities, passenger lounges and separate arrivals and departures' halls. The project contains a number of unique structures including the departures hall roof and precast concrete roadway. |
