Abstract:

Bridge over the Sella river

It is an arch bridge made of steel with a 78,80 m main span and with a composite steel concrete deck, over the Sella river, upstream Arriondas (Asturias). The main features of the solution adopted is that only vertical loads are transmited to the pile foundations. The horizontal forces from the arch are transmitted to the upper deck by the inclined struts. The composite steel-concrete deck is formed by two box girders made of steel and a concrete slab with variable thickness. The main geometrical and constructional features of the different elements are also described.
