Abstract: |
Los Santos bridge over he Eo RiverThe bridge, which connects the regions of Asturias and Galicia, crosses the Eo Estuary between Figueras and Ribadeo thus avoiding a 21 km detour. The structure consists of five continuous spans (75 m + 3 x 150 m + 75 m) and a 12 m freely supported access span. The piers, 34 m above the sea kevekm cinsist of two vertical parallel 2 m thick walls. The 12,5 m wide deck has a thickness varying between 3,00 and 7,5 metres. The central puers were founded on 2 m diameter 64 m long piles. The deck was constructed by successive cantilevering from each pier. At the design stage special attentio was given to rpoblems arising from stress concentration at anchorages and in the centre span zone, due to curvature of the prestressing cables. Instrumentation has been installed for monitoring tensions and deflections. |
