Abstract:

A Proposal of Reference Values for Diagonal Compressive Strength and Compressive Strength of Masonry Design in Guerrero State, Mexico

In this paper, reference values for diagonal compressive strength (DCS) and compressive strength (CS) of masonry design were obtained in Guerrero State (Mexico). Thereby, results of masonry testing programs during the last 16 years were studied by using a statistical analysis. DCS values of 0.45 MPa for solid clay brick masonry and 0.20 MPa for hollow concrete block masonry, by using mortar type I or II, were calculated; in solid concrete block masonry with mortar type I, DCS was 0.45 MPa. In addition, for masonry elaborated with any type of masonry piece and mortar (I or II), CS had a value equal to 1.9 MPa. These calculated values can be used for both masonry design and revision of masonry buildings.
