Abstract:

Future safety analyses and design procedures in the construction industry will be oriented towards probabilities of failure which have been stipulated in terms of standardized partial safety factors. Fastenings, therefore, as an integral part of structures, should also comply with the new safety concept with respect to design. In this paper, mechanical/stochastic models are developed to describe the ultimate limit state of fastenings. They are used for probabilistic design and might represent the basis for constant partial safety factors of a simplified design approach.
