Abstract:

Plastic analysis and design: Formulas and diagrams for rectangular slabs

The new codes allow to determine the sectional efforts taking into consideration the plastic behaviour of reinforced concrete - as for the design of cross sections. The kinematic and the static procedures give upper and lower bounds of the load carrying capacity. After an introductory presentation of the static treatment in the elastic and in the plastic domain, formulas and - exemplary - diagrams for rectangular slabs with supports on four, three and two sides under uniformly distributed loads are presented. The yield-line method, a kinematic plastic procedure is utilized, which gives sufficient safe results - with well selected fail geometries. Numerical examples for various slabs and references to other possibilities of obtaining sectional efforts in the plastic domain complete the paper.
