Abstract:

Design and tender of the strengthening of the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte Bridge in Luxembourg - Modification of the traffic composition by appropriate material usage and design.

The brigde Grande-Duchesse Charlotte is situated between the city of Luxembourg and the quarter of Kirchberg. The steel bridge carries the Boulevard John F. Kennedy, part of the N 51 over the valley of the Alzette. In view of two tramlines the modification of the traffic composition on the bridge deck is necessary. Due to this projected transportation planning several strengthening and rehabilitation measures are planned in order to ensure the durability and carrying capacity according to current engineering standards. The main measure consists in the strengthening of the orthotropic steel deck by the application of a sandwich-plate-system overlay.
