Abstract:

The current trend toward structural steel parking structures with a pre-stress deck evokes many design questions. Some of these questions concern the following topics: 1. Design loads; 2. stability; 3. deck design; 4. beam design with emphasis on long-term stresses and deflections. All of these topics, except for long-term stresses and deflections in beams, especially those induced by prestressing, are discussed in the open literature. Consequently, the author addresses the first three topics and refers the reader to pertinent publications. On the other hand, the last topic, rarely discussed in the open literature, is discussed comprehensively by the author.
