Abstract:

A rectangular standing plate under self-weight has simply supported vertical sides and strengthened by a horizontal internal line support. The difficult two-point boundary value problem is turned into two deterministic initial value problems. Four kinds of horizontal edge conditions are considered. It is found that the support raises the fundamental frequency unevenly. The optimum location to place the support for vibration suppression is determined.
