Abstract:

Optimization of free cuts - experimental and numerical studies.

Next to ultimate and serviceability state design, close attention is to be paid to fatigue resistance when dealing with cyclic loads on constructions and their components. Model building in fatigue depends on several parameters which can be evaluated only partially, however. These parameters include among other things the geometry of the component and especially the details of the design. In the present case studies are carried out to investigate geometrically optimized free cuts for components of non-alloy low strengths steels and are verified by experimental tests. This procedure results in considerable benefits in terms of optimization whose potential is strongly affected by the required stress cycles, the underlying regulations and evaluation methods.
