Abstract:

The introduction of rationalized design procedures for cast-in and post-installed anchors in Europe and the U.S. was intended to provide a uniform factor of safety for anchorages in concrete, regardless of loading type or failure mode. While this objective has largely been achieved, there remain a number of difficulties associated with anchorage design. This paper identifies the most intractable of these problems and offers suggested directions of inquiry for their solution.
