Abstract:

The new Samuel De Champlain Bridge Project (the “Project”) is one of the largest crossings in NorthAmerica. The signature span is an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge featuring a 240 m main span overthe St. Lawrence Seaway. The Project was subjected to a fast-tracked schedule of only 48 months fromdesign to opening. The design-build team made innovative use of precast concrete, modular segments, and erection sequencing to meet the Project timeline, while overcoming the site-specific hazards andsevere winters unique to Montréal.
