Abstract:

Models for calculation of masonry shear walls.

The currently used "open design" in the single-family housing leads often to problems in the verification of the construction stiffening due to a lack of shear walls. In order to solve this task, this paper shows several approaches by using reserves in the determination of internal forces to increase the load-bearing capacity of masonry shear walls. The aim is to give the practicing engineer a tool for standard cases which can be used for exploiting existing load-bearing capacity reserves at a reasonable computational expenditure.
