The management of the handling of approximately 25 m tonnes of spoil material from the Gotthard Base Tunnel was and still is an enormous challenge. A permit system for concrete mixes and continuous testing of the excavated raw material and the grading of the broken rock ensure that as much spoil material as possible can be reused for the production of high-quality concretes and shotcretes for the construction of the tunnel. |
