Abstract: |
After an introduction about the use of glass this paper describes material glass in general, such as the chemical and mechanical properties, the manufacture of flat glass and the major glass types being used for structural glass. A short survey is given about the various glass types used in architectural design. A second part deals with the strength of glass, which differs much from the strength of other materials. Finally a very short scrutiny about the structural design of glass constructions is provided. |
