Abstract:

This paper analyzes the thermal behaviour of the prestressed, box girder Casilina Bridge over a motorway near Rome, Italy, based on a three-year monitoring program. A finite element model for transient thermal analysis agreed well with observed values and allowed the calibration of an algorithm for calculating the effective mean temperature and linear vertical and horizontal gradients from field temperatures.
