Abstract:

Glass was always considered a luxury product. A variety of industry awards and sports trophies are still made from the material. On a small scale, expert glaziers will produce masterpieces of exquisite nature. On a larger scale, standard architectural glass products have to be used imaginatively to deliver artisan quality. In this paper, we will reflect upon a decade of projects our team in Arup facade engineering was fortunate to collaborate on. The projects are interlinked with a golden thread of passion, inspiration, and innovation. The construction industry is based on risk mitigation, so those projects are incubators of innovative ideas, tested in real‐life environments without the warranty and insurance pressures of larger jobs.
