Abstract:

Reinforcement corrosion caused by carbonation of concrete in separating cracks with inflowing water

Main causes for reinforcement corrosion are carbonation of concrete or reaching the critical chloride content at the reinforcement. After depassivation of the reinforcement corrosion is induced depending on availability of oxygen and humidity.
Especially at constructions with separating cracks running through the concrete and water running through the cracks depassivation of the reinforcement may also occur without influence of carbonation or chlorides.
Leaching of the concrete can lead to a reduction of the ph-value so that the passive layer on the surface of the reinforcement is destroyed.
However, systematic investigation on this process is actually not available.
In this article examples are given for the type of reinforcement corrosion by means of leaching of the concrete.
