Proposed corrections to EN 1993-1-8, dealing with hollow section joints.The latest version of Eurocode EN 1993-1-8 has an exclusive chapter dealing with hollow section joints. This article proposes corrections relating to hollow section joints and explains the relevant research background where necessary. The proposed corrections concern errors in the text, the formulation and the validity range, confusing statements and corrections necessary for the extension of steel grades up to S 460. Also, corrections based upon research results in the last 20 years are given, which have shown that the safety level is lower than expected, such as the influence of chord tensile stress on the joint capacity. |
