Abstract: |
Concentrated shear transfer between steel and concrete — Testing of the saw tooth connector.Due to technical and economical considerations, bridges and buildings are increasingly designed and constructed as hybrid structures made of structural steel and concrete. Frequently, concentrated loads from steel elements have to be transferred into slender concrete elements. The connection aspect becomes even more important as structural steel and concrete of increasingly higher strength with the resulting smaller structural dimensions are used. A connection that is suitable for concentrated shear transfer for these structures is the saw tooth connector. It is expected that this type of connection will have a high fatigue strength as well. The article describes where this connection can be used, explains the underlying structural principles and the structural tests undertaken at the TU Berlin to assess the saw tooth geometry. |
