Abstract:

This winning entry to the Institution's Kenneth Severn Award 2023 – an annual essay competition for young engineers – introduces the benefits of incorporating site experience and proper mentorship into the development of structural engineers, with particular emphasis on how these influences will ensure structures remain safely and economically constructible in an increasingly 'software reliant' industry.
