Abstract: |
Improvements in software and machine connectivity have created a situation where design, analysis and fabrication tasks can be closely integrated for efficient transfer of data and product models. Software compatibility adds the potential of cost-effective information exchange between different partners of a construction project. However, sophisticated tools need to be used with care, and new quality-control procedures are needed to prevent unexpected mistakes. This paper describes recent software developments that offer both opportunities and risks for structural engineers. |
