Abstract: |
Influence of corrosion on steel to concrete bondThe present paper deals with the influence of corrosion on steel-to-concrete bond from two different standpoints. Firstly, a theoretical model to estimate the residual bond capacity before the concrete cover is cracked by corrosion is proposed. The model is based on the stress and strain analysis of a thick-wall concrete ring subjected to increasing inner pressure. Secondly, an experimentation aimed to study the bond capacity after the appearance of corrosion cracks in presented. Pull-out tests on prismatic concrete specimens reinforced in all four corners were carried out. Different levels of corrosion were reached (producing cracks widths ranging from 0.1 mm to 0.4 mm). and various amounts of transverse reinforcement were arranged. Finally, bearing in mind the results of the theoretical model and experimental research, a global proposal to estimate the relation between corrosion and bond strength is presented. |
