Abstract: |
The construction of the cable-stayed bridge in Schaffhausen and the studies that were carried out show that the cable-stayed structural system can be applied to curved bridges. The present studies and tests show that a combination of structural analysis, reduced model testing and in situ testing provide a comprehensive understanding of the structural behaviour of an unusual structural design. The study shows that a basic numerical model composed simply of beam elements may allow for a fairly realistic and efficient analysis of the linear elastic behaviour of a complex structure. This case shows the viability, advantages and disadvantages of in situ tests and reduced model tests. |
