Abstract: |
The building complex emerged as the winner in an international architectural competition (Fig. 1). Its design resulted from close cooperation between the architect, the structural engineer, and the energy engineer. Within the frame-work of this interdisciplinary cooperation, the basic objectives of the draft were prepared and defined jointly in the first project phase. These objectives were to set new standards for multi-story buildings in Germany and to develop a building with a pioneering character – without exceeding the comparatively low budget. The following section describes the loadbearing structure of the multi-story buildings. It deals in particular with the structural elements which enabled the realization of buildings of such extraordinary transparency and lightness. |
